Sony’s New Technology? Medium Format Sony Camera with Curved Sensor

News Desk, Time for a DSLR / 27 Apr 2020: So, get ready for one more innovation. It seems that Sony camera with curved sensor is about to get into the stream soon. Sony’s research and development team has been working over this and so it is still a question that when will this camera hit the market. Since there are many medium format cameras in the market and a few would even come shortly. But the medium format camera with curved sensor would be a novel thing and hence Sony has high expectation from this.

Sony has been working over this since 2014 and that now, Sony is keen on launching such a camera pretty soon. The sensor in this camera would not be flat. The design of the sensor would be like the human eye retina. The sensor would be more sensitive in the center and also in the edges. In the year 2014, this report had come, Sony Creates Curved CMOS Sensor. In this report, Kazuichiro Itonaga, a device manager with Sony’s research platform had explained how this technology is supposed to be. Sony had patented this curved sensor in the year 2017.

So, now, since the company has ample of time to develop a new product, it has been working over this. Also, Canon, Microsoft and Nikon are working over similar idea. This has made Sony fulfill the dream faster before anyone else takes the plunge to get ahead in the race.

There are several benefits of curved lens. The first being the way it is created, the curved lens would pair well with the flat lens. There would be larger aperture with this combination and hence there would be better light conditions.

Experts even suggest that, if Sony doesn’t want to add curved Sensor into its own production line then it would sell the medium format sensors to Hasselblad and Fujifilm. But the patent also suggests the design part and hence it seems that the new Sony camera with curved sensor will be on its way within a short span.
