So, what should be ideal ISO settings for Landscape Photography?

As a beginner, you might not know what should be the ideal ISO in any particular situation. So, first thing, you should know what the impact of ISO is.

Well, ISO is directly proportional to the camera’s sensitivity to light. If you keep the ISO on the higher note the camera’s sensitivity to light will increase. If the ISO is kept at lower, then the camera’s sensitivity to light will be less.

High ISO is also associated with more noise and fast shutter speed. Thus for beginners, an ideal ISO limit would be to be set at 100. Yes ISO 100 is a good level for the beginners. Even for landscape photography, the landscapes that are simple and stationed at one subject, you can use ISO as 100 for the basic pictures. But this is not the only setting of ISO as apt for landscape photography. You will have to change as per the situation.

There are some situations in landscape photography where ISO 100 will not be possible:

  • When you are not using the tripod and doing photography
  • When you are doing landscape photography at night
  • When you are trying to freeze the subjects in motion
  • When you are using a telephoto lens and there’s no tripod
  • When you want to adjust the shutter speed

ISO 100 will give better quality images

It is true that with ISO 100 you will get the best quality images. But, ISO settings for landscape photography would be different under different situations. So you can keep ISO 100 as the starting point. But you have to enhance the same as per the situation.

If you are doing landscape photography in the night or if you are simply trying night photography then there will be ISO 1600 as the starting point.

Doing the adjustments manually will really help you in many different ways. So, be sure to make the relevant alterations when needed. When adjusting ISO setting for landscape photography you might have to sacrifice the image quality a bit.
