DSLR vs Mirrorless camera: Know the difference

Before we talk about the difference about DSLR vs Mirrorless camera, I would like to tell you that both are equally good cameras and the technology that they have is also too good. Mirrorless cameras have created buzz these days, but most of the DSLR cameras have also adopted the features that the mirrorless ones have. So, you can say that in no way DSLRs are less popular or less sought!

1. Know what each of them means

DSLR means digital single lens reflex. DSLRs are designed to have an image sensor and there is also a mirror inside the body of the camera. The light that gets into the camera is reflected through the lens up to the additional mirror. In this way the view can be captured in the camera. When the shutter button is pressed the mirror would flip up and this way the light hits the image and the final picture is captured. Canon EOS 50D, Nikon D3500, Nikon D5000 are some of the examples of DSLR cameras.

On the other hand the mirrorless camera uses the concept of the smart phone camera wherein light passes through the lens and then directly goes to the image sensor. Sony a6100 is one if the examples of Mirrorless cameras.

2. DSLR vs Mirrorless weight and size

When we talk about weight, it is important to understand that DSLR camera has a bulky body because there would be need to fit the mirror in the body and there would also be viewfinder in DSLR. Mirrorless cameras on the other hand are simple in make and they have light weight and compact body. So, if you are looking for something light and compact then perhaps the mirrorless cameras would win over.

3. LCD screen and viewfinder

Technically speaking, all the DSLRs have LCD screen and viewfinder. But the mirrorless cameras have LCD screen but they may or may not have viewfinder. These days both have the best features and hence if you are buying a DSLR or a mirrorless, the purchase decision will depend upon your own requirement and desires.

How the debate DSLR vs Mirrorless is a silly one?

Technology is meant to upgrade and with every innovation, almost everyone is benefitted. But with the innovation, it is not at all necessary that the old technology becomes obsolete. Mirrorless cameras might be the future, but still, you will find hosts of people who are in love with the DSLR technology. What I said here just now is justified by the leading photographer of The Art of Photography Ted Forbes over here:

Well, it is also important to note that last year both Nikon and Canon had announced their first mirrorless cameras. But this year recently, Nikon announced one more DSLR camera, Nikon D6.This means that even if the company has stepped into the world of mirrorless cameras, the first love for them is always going to be DSLRs.
