Best 4 Reasons why you need Filters in Photography
Filters in photography are important because they help in making the image look more realistic. The part that has to be attached in the front part of the lens is called as a filter. In the start of my career, I never really knew why I was supposed to use the filters. But soon with my work getting a lot of scope, I started to learn the importance of filters in photography.
Here are the best 4 reasons why you must use filters in photography?
1. Adding charm to the landscape photos
If you use filters for photography then you will be able to enhance the effects and contrasts in landscape photography. In most of the types of photography polarizing filters are being used and they are basically helpful in enhancing the color within the image. If the image relates to a forest or vegetation, then by using a polarizing filter, the image would look greener and more realistic. The polarizing filter is available in circle and square form.
2. Do you want the image to look live or add some movement to it?
Filters for photography would have various uses. Like, there’s one called as an ND filter. The purpose of this one is to add movement or life into the picture. ND filters means Neural Density filters and in this there is reduced light that passes through the lens. This means that when the day is bright, you can still take images with slow shutter speeds. There are variation in densities and if you select the one with a higher density, the effect would be stronger.
3. Adding the balancing factor
ND filters also help in achieving the balancing factors and this specifically holds true for the landscape images. To explain this better, I would like to give you an example. If the photograph is to be taken for a landscape along with the bright sky then it is for sure that the sky would be too bright and the foreground would be dull. Now, for such an image ND filter would achieve the balancing factor and as a result you will get a brilliant landscape which has perfect colors and brightness.
4. Adding special effects in the image
There are such amazing filters available and you would go crazy if you would see how their effect would be. To name a few there are black and white filters, infrared filters, fog filters, mist filters, sky filters, coral filters and even tint filters.
So, in one way you can say that the filters for photography are game changers and once you start using the different types of photography, you will realize that what kind of filters work best for which type of image.
Filters also help to protect the lens. The lenses in the DSLR are quite important and expensive. They are delicate too. If you attach filters, there would be one protective layer for the lenses and this would be a good thing.
So, now do you know why using the filters is important in photography? It is true that a photographer would want to show the genuine work of creation. But things might not be as perfect always and hence when there are some issues with white balances, color differences and brightness, the photographer can take a call and use the filters for photography. As a beginner photographer, you would feel that which filter to use when would be a complicated thing to understand. But I bet, once you start practicing and experimenting, you will come to know what works best for you.
But while you are using the filters, make sure that you don’t end up making the photo look completely unnatural. So, just try a shot first without any filter. Then attach the filter and see how the effect is. Once you come to know what works better, you should adopt the idea.
